Ask Max and Kelly

Dear Max and Kelly,

The other night, my 12 year old daughter asked if she could have a slumber party. I said yes, thinking that only a few of her girlfriends would show up. Before I knew it, my house was full of dozens of screaming pre-teen girls from her class.. It took a deployment of the National Guard to round them all up and get them to go home. What should I do so the next time she asks about having a party, I'll want to say yes?

Max: Dear Sleepless,

You should communicate your problem with your daughter. Obviously she is interested in pushing her boundaries. Perhaps she just needs some reinforcement of the rules. Spend an evening talking about what's appropriate for having guests over. Soon, she'll have the best party-mate of all: You!

Sleepless:

Wait, wait, wait. This is your big problem? Let me tell you what a big problem is. A big problem would have been her having the party while you weren't home. With lots of boys. And do you think any self respecting kid would ASK before having a party? Get real. Tell your daughter if she wants to know how to really throw a party, give me a call. Otherwise, stop wasting my time.

I really hate doing this.
