So,
this was it. My first attempt at a fully functioning webcomic site. By site, I
mean that "Quack's Echo" was to be more than just an updating comic
strip. Each of the buttons above was an article, with a panel cartoon itself,
that was updated every week. So, six comic strips a week plus, 6 or 7 articles
with companion cartoons. It only lasted a month or so before I completely burned
myself.out. It was overly ambitious, but it was still fun, and I really enjoyed
the comics that came out of it. It was online in the early months of 2004.
For
purposes of it's archiving on brucetoons.com, the buttons above will all link
to my favorite corresponding article. They're all dated, since they events the
team was covering all happened in Quack City, but they were all parodies of real-life
events.
The strip stars Jake Phillips, and his friends Michelle and Steve,
all of whom appear in "Sinking Ship" and "Chalkdust" If you
want to establish a timeline, I think of this happening between "Sinking
Ship" and "Chalkdust" The trio are reporters, who file their stories
with their own website "Quack's Echo," reporting on the people and events
of Quack City. Besides those three, the "Advice" column was written
by Max and Kelly (the middle aged descendent of the founders of Quack City, and
his rebellious teenage daughter... he forces her to do the column, as a bonding
experience), while the business section was written by Hunter Swelling, and old
timer who was burned out with the real news industry. It was a fun experiment,
but soon they all had to find real jobs... That's what lead Jake to find a career
in teaching, thus beginning "Chalkdust."

By the way, there was another "Quack's Echo" series. This
one a drew while in 2002 while living in Maryland. There are only a few strips,
but it really set the stage for this version of "Quack's Echo."
